This Hatha Yoga class combines the physical postures (asanas) with breathing techniques (pranayama) with the main focus being the guided meditation that leads you into deep relaxation and stress relief of Yoga Nidra.
I'm a certified teacher of Integral YOGA, a traditional form of yoga under the teachings of Yogiraj Sri Swami Satchidananda. Integral Yoga focuses not only on the physical practice but mental practice as well. Shavasana used through out the practice as a way of checking in with your body and you tap into the places that hold resistance and asking it to release and let go.
Classes can range from 45 to 90 minutes without ever shortening the Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) portion of the class. Every class begins and ends with an "Om" chant.
I view the OM as "internal" yoga... The OM sound vibration moves from your belly or abdomen clearing your gut blockages into your throat releasing stuck ideas, words and feelings and finally releasing through the crown of your head out and around your body.
The classes are perfect for all levels but you must be able to move on and off the mat. There are modifications to every pose and some of the contraindications may have you opting out of a position. If that happens, lay back in shavasana and enjoy that time as a way of checking in with yourself.
I encourage you to leave your ego at the door, as we all show up to class in a different body and our state of being may be different from day to day. And that is the key to the practice... the more you do it.. the more you become balanced in the mental & physical areas.
